Interview of Alessandra Raffone, project manager at AlmavivA (Italy).

What are the expectations of AlmavivA regarding the SCENE project?

Our expectation regarding, in general, innovation projects is to continue to make the difference in the European contest as well as in the national contest. In SCENE, we are dealing with the smart cities. In my opinion, a smart city is a place where everyone is happy. And according to this principle, we are participating in this kind of projects. In particular, in the Italian pilot of SCENE, we are trying to deal with the critical infrastructure for example in Catania which is a mid-sized city.

What are the needs that you have identified in Italy?

In Italy we have identified a lot of needs, especially for the mid-sized cities. First of all, we want to protect the huge cultural heritage we have, and in some regions, this patrimony can be endangered by earthquakes. For this reason, we have focused the pilot of Catania on this aspect, since the city is located close to Etna, a volcano which is active and that can damage our monuments but also roads, buildings and so on..

Have you identified potential providers to put sensors on the roads and buildings in this use case ?

Not yet. As a system integrator we are really independent from industrial providers. For now, we need to move forward in the definition of the system and specifications of the solution. Once all the requirements will be ready, we will chose the best providers to work with.
